A brilliant and up to date introduction to democracy and the challenges facing democracy around the globe. The author covers the origins and definition of democracy, the expression of democratic principles in modern states and transnational organizations, including their flaws, and the future of democracy.
I found this book very interesting, although I disagreed with some of the points the author made. It was thought-provoking, a rallying cry for democracy and engagement in the democratic process.
The arguments were well presented and convincing, the writing style engaging. Though this book is aimed at the general reader it has enough depth to interest the student of politics.
I recommend this book, in fact I believe it, or something similar should be given to kids when they reach their GCSE years.
