My Review

It’s rare I review an e-book, but Rachel begged and it’s a journal-type book rather than a lot of reading, so it didn’t take long. Thanks to Rachel, of Rachel’s Random Resources for sending me a digital copy of this book for review.

The book takes the form of a weekly journal with goals for the week and a record of writing done, inspirational quotes from writers and associated writing prompts to help the reader think about why they write and what they want to get from writing.

The quotes and exercises made this an interesting, and probably very useful, writing journal, as they were quite deep and thought inducing rather than the usual ‘positivity’ quotes and bog standard writing exercises. I’ve read a lot of writing books in the last decade, some of which I’ve reviewed, and these exercises were rather deeper.

The tracking questions should be really helpful to writers wanting to make the most of their writing time. The idea of looking forward into the coming months and then years, with goals for what you want from writing is helpful for those who need a clear pathway, or have a clear vision of where they want to go in life. Unfortunately, for me it wouldn’t work, since I don’t know what I’m doing next month let alone in ten years, I can’t see that far ahead.

This is a good one for the slightly more experienced writer. It is undated and can be started whenever you want to, with 52 weeks worth of progress records, support and continuous prompting.
