EXTRACT of Mum’s the World

She’d had no choice, she told herself firmly. She angrily recalled that life-changing conversation she’d overheard between Bull and Malky at the last Lodge Ladies Night dinner, before having to endure the forced sex that always followed a Lodge night. That night she finally realised that she had only been a means to an end for all those years. He’d only ever wanted the farm, and after everything she’d endured, she was not going to risk a divorce.

She exhaled, blowing the hate and the tension out with a long controlled breath. A single tear escaped and ran down her cheek, splashing on the keyboard. She angrily wiped it away, chiding herself for feeling sorry for herself. Not for him. She’d never shed a tear for him ever again.
