My Review

Thanks to Rachel, of Rachel’s Random Resources, for organising this blog tour, and to the publisher for my copy of this book.

This is a book for children aged 5 to 8, I think. With beautiful illustrations and detailed biographies as well as activities, it introduces primary school children to conservation and those working to protect the planet.

I thought the illustrations were very well done, very ‘rich’ and colourful. The activities are varied and interesting, and help children develop multiple skills. This would be good book to use as a teacher resources as well as reading material for children to learn about different animals and people. I liked that there were people from all over the world highlighted.

This is an important subject for children to learn. We were learning about it almost 40 years ago when I was at primary school and nothing seems to have improved. The generation this book is aimed at will have more work to do because of the inaction of the one before my own. As for my own generation, we’ve tried but not hard enough, we haven’t been radical enough, we’ve allowed politicians and vested interests to distract us from the fight. Imaging what we could have done if we hadn’t been distracted by oil wars in the last twenty plus years?

I hope this book lights a fire in the kids who are going to have to live with the consequences of our inaction.
