Received in return for an honest review, from Authoright

My Review

Not my usual I know, but I like Rachel at Authoright, so I agreed to take part in this blog tour. Makes a change from crime and murder, I suppose. I am a bit of a sceptic about this stuff; despite my pagan beliefs I have trouble with these types of books because they’re wishy-washy and fluffy. Life is not fluffy. And don’t get me started on the terrible understanding of science most of the authors have,

But back to this book. It’s divided into two. The first is a collection of stories from people who have contacted Teresa Cheung and some explanation of different phenomena, followed by Claire Broad’s chapters discussing various aspects of mediumship and some of her experiences.

Ms Cheung’s chapters were generic despite the personal stories she included for illustrative purposes. Also, her grasp of science is poor. Sorry, but I find the continuous refrain from New Agers and the like that ‘scientists are beginning to agree with us’ etc. bores me.

I preferred Claire’s chapters because I’m interested in how mediums work and her first hand experiences and stories are an interesting insight. She tells the stories movingly and tries to explain as well as she can her experiences.

Overall, the personal stories were affecting, and the authors wrote well, but there was nothing new here that isn’t available in other books on the subject. If you want an introduction to the subject it might be of interest to you.
