Sound
Can you hear it?
A professor of psychoacoustics is found dead in his office. It appears to be a heart attack, until a second acoustician dies a few days later in similar circumstances.
Meanwhile, there’s an outbreak of mysterious illnesses on a council estate, and outbursts of unexplained violence in a city centre nightclub. Not to mention strange noises coming from the tunnels underneath Liverpool. Can it really be a coincidence that death metal band Total Depravity are back in the city, waging their own form of sonic warfare?
Detective Inspector Darren Swift is convinced there are connections. Still grieving his fiancé’s death and sworn to revenge, he is thrown back into action on the trail of a murderer with a terrifying and undetectable weapon.
But this case cannot be solved using conventional detective work, and D.I. Swift will need to put the rulebook aside and seek the occult expertise of Dr. Helen Hope and her unlikely sidekick, guitarist Mikko Kristensen.

My Review
I don’t review many ebooks these days because of the brain weasels, but for Rachel and Catherine I’m happy to. I love these books. Also, Do keep scrolling, there’s a fantastic giveaway following my review. I definitely will be entering. I’m determined to get me some signed copies of Catherine’s books.
We’re back in Liverpool, it’s almost Halloween, Darren is grieving, Helen and Mikko are disgustingly in love, and a couple of acousticians are dead. What more could one want?
Catherine’s other life as a music journo and metal lover is as present as ever in this third novel. Only she could make the various delineations of black metal interesting, for a start. It all sounds like a racket to me anyway. The unlikely crime fighting team of a Liverpudlian copper, a religious expert and a Norwegian guitarist get back together once more to fight demons, a gangster turned property tycoon and the soundscape of a changing city. Sound is what this novel is all about. The sounds of the city and how they affect humans, how sound can be used for joy or pain, and summoning demons, Mustn’t forget the demon summoning.
The ending was a total shocker in many ways and I’m left with questions and hoping there will be another. Happily Ever After is too much to hope for.
I do love this series. I read the first half on Saturday afternoon in a couple of hours, but then I got a migraine so I had to stop. I blame forgetting my medication, food and fluids on this novel. I finished it on Sunday afternoon, although I did remember to eat, drink and take meds before starting. I think that might be the key to success – do everything essential before sitting down with this book because you won’t want to get up from your chair until you’ve read it all.
