Blog Tour Calendar #Rararesources #AliceCastle #CalamityInCamberwell

Kicking off tomorrow, on publication day, there’s a blog tour, organised by Rachel, of Rachel’s Random Resources, for Alice Castle’s new cosy crime novel Calamity in Camberwell. No review from me this time, but as I reviewed the first two books in the series last month, I agreed to host a promo post, including a rafflecopter link for a chance to win a signed copy of the book. Lots of other book lovers are reviewing though, so head to any of the blogs on the calendar or follow @rararesources on Twitter for links to blog posts, for reviews.

The changing face of CD packaging

And to continue the subject of music…

It’s probably not the most fascinating of subjects to most people but something caught my eye as I was contemplating my CD collection recently. I was sizing them up for new storage. This never used to be a problem because I hardly owned any music, but in the last couple of years I have collected rather a lot. During this operation I realised I might have a bit of a problem getting storage because standard CD racks are designed for one format of CD case and I had several different types. And that was when it hit me.

Review: ‘A funny thing happened on the way to heaven’ by Corey Taylor

This second book by Stone Sour and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor follows on from Seven Deadly Sins in a round about way. He is again pondering the mysteries of life and death while sprinkling the whole with memories. This time it is his experiences with ghosts. Ever since he was young he has had encountered the paranormal and lived in various haunted buildings. People have told him their own ghost stories; they are gathered here with the express intention of starting a conversation.

Corey Taylor is an articulate and intelligent, if uneducated, man and has clearly thought his ideas through. Whether the reader believes the stories he tells or agrees with his hypothesis of ‘intelligent energy’ is up to them. He won’t tell you what to think, only to think.

I’m not sure whether I agree with much that he has written, except that people need to use their intelligence and not let ignorance and dogma control them. He clearly believes and feels strongly about the subject. It shines in his writing. The writing style is conversational, he goes off at a tangent regularly, but that is not necessarily to the detriment of the work.

An enjoyable and interestting look in to the mind of an important member of the Metal music fraternity.

Bye,

Lost the thread again

Hey up,

I’ve been terribly lazy and sort of lost the thread with the short story I was writing, I’ve given myself a kick up the arse and will be making progress, and hopefully posting the rest of ‘Words, Words, Words’ in the next few days. And just for the hell of it I’ve decided to try another little experiment involving writing to music. Shall we see what happens.

Must go, I’ve got stories to write
