My Review

Matthew emailed me in July to see if I could review the first book in his series as the second was about to be published. I’ve only just had the chance to read the book.

It was well-worth the wait. Caitlin watches her apparently innocuous, small town parents get arrested early one morning, and escapes through the neighbours’ gardens. Making her way to the capital, Dominion City, as an illegal immigrant she risks arrest and death. Once there she finds that revolutionaries want to co-opt her to their movements. Which one though? And who should she trust?

The world and characters are well developed, and the plot interesting. I enjoyed the writing and the book seemed to pass quickly. I enjoyed the plot twist at the end and Caitlin’s character development as she learns about her family history and starts to decide for herself who she wants to be despite the pressures of each political side wanting her to be their figurehead and her love for Alec.

If you enjoy YA dystopia, this is a book you’ll like.
