My Review

Lia wants a pet to take on an adventure. Lion wants a pet to take on an adventure. They find each other.

This is really a poem that tells a story, of meeting a new friend, learning to trust and understand each other. It has bright, lively illustrations by the author. The author learnt to use acrylic paints to illustrate this poem, and the technique adds to the dreamy nature of the poem/story. Lia and Lion are delightfully drawn characters.

Author Information

Al Rodin is a writer and illustrator from London. He studied children’s book illustration at Cambridge School of Art and received the 2019 Sebastian Walker Prize. Al enjoys working with a wide variety of materials including acrylic, watercolour and collage. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries around Europe and Asia, and he was selected for lllustrators’ Exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2019.
