That’s right, it’s me. It’s another cold and the cough has returned. I wasn’t up to going in this morning; my anxiety was playing up as well. I really didn’t want to go to Lincoln for the day but I forced myself to get the bus to Grimsby and then get the train from there. It doubles my transport costs but I wouldn’t have managed the walk to Habrough station without an asthma attack or coughing fit. Continue reading “Uni week 4: Guess who’s sick!”

Local authors give me books
And other things I’ve been up to in the book department.
August is here and with it the sound of screaming kids playing in the streets, barbecues and my long-awaited holiday. This first I’ve ever been on alone, my first abroad and the first time I’ve done all the booking online – just the online check-in to do. I haven’t had a holiday in fifteen years. We’re off to Paris for three nights to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I’m very excited, two weeks from now I’ll be flying (again, first time in twenty-seven years) from Leeds-Bradford to Charles de Gaulle. It’s a big adventure for me.
Short story: The Dress
Hello, it’s been a while since I inflicted my story telling abilities on you, my dear readers, but today I found a marvellous prompt on todaysauthor.com’s Write Now post. http://todaysauthor.com/2016/02/09/write-now-prompt-for-february-9-2016/
This is my at least five minutes of writing. Once I’m finished I’m going back to the novel, book two. I finished the first draft of book one yesterday! I’m very happy with myself.
He considered his options carefully as he stared across the desk at the unhelpful customer service agent.
My response for to the WordPress Weekly Challenge: Object
I don’t often do the writing challenges from the WordPress Daily Post but I saw this one and felt the need.

30 Days of Creative Writing: Day 30
Good morning. Well done, you’ve put up with my pseudo-creative ramblings for 30 days. This is the last in the series. I’ve chosen an exercise that appears in ‘term three’ of ‘Back to Creative Writing School’ by Bridget Whelan.
The subject under discussion is the literary genre of magical reality. Or, magic for grown-ups as the author herself described the genre in her section title. The exercise is to choose a character from from a given list and then give them unexpected wings. How do they react? What are the wings like?
30 Days of Creative Writing: Day 29
For today’s exercise I’ve chosen another photo prompt. This one is called ‘The Journey’ and shows the view out of a car window. In addition there is the question what’s ahead and how does it relate to the morning news.
30 days of Creative Writing: Day 24
I’m back! After feeling particularly awful for a couple of days and pretty much incapable of writing anything creative, I’m feeling almost human again.
30 Days of Creative Writing: Day 17, part the second
I’m back, and so soon.
The twelfth section of this book is actually a really quick exercise. It’s called ‘The blue man woke up’ and ‘was inspired in part by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way’.

30 Days of Creative Writing: Day 17
Good morning, after working on the ‘Hit & Miss Bibliomancy’ exercise on Wednesday and Thursday I am finally ready to unveil a sample of the short story that resulted from the three words I chose.
30 days of creative writing: Day 5
Good evening, I’m not feeling fantastic but I’m willing to give today’s exercise a go. Today’s is a game of Scrabble Fiction. Using all the words on the Scrabble board pictured in the book I have to write a story. This may take some time.
