Hello, dear readers.
How’s everyone?
I’ve made the trip to Lincoln today to re-enrol for the second year of my MA. I’m not in until January, I’ve already got the assignment for the module prepared but I’ll complete it during the term.
I’m working on edits of Fire Betrayed and getting on with Charley’s War, as well as one or two reviews a week. I’m working too hard, it’s probably not good for me 😀
Anyway, I’ve been thinking, this being poor thing isn’t good for me, I spend too much time worrying about paying the rent and not enough time working on the writing. Patreon has been suggested but I’d be interested in people’s thoughts. I was thinking of giving rewards for certain amounts of monthly donations.
AMOUNT/month REWARD/month
£2 Exclusive review
£5 Exclusive review + poem
£10 Exclusive review + poem + approx. 1000 word short story
£15 Exclusive review + poem + approx. 1000 word short story + approx 1000 word article on an historical or scientific subject
£25 Exclusive review + poem + approx. 1000 word short story + approx 1000 word article on an historical or scientific subject + early access to e-book copies of my novels
£30 Exclusive review + poem + approx. 1000 word short story + approx 1000 word article on an historical or scientific subject + early access to e-book copies of my novels + paperback copies of all my books as they are released.
What do people think? Am I expecting too much? Or not enough, for some of the rewards?
It would make my life easier if I knew I could cover the rent whether or not I was getting extra help from the council, or if I could afford more a month in rent that would allow me to move to a bungalow not in Grimsby. Seriously, I’m getting withdrawal from not being around fields and trees. Watching the fields going past on my way to Lincoln was almost as soothing as finally getting all the paperwork sorted out.

I’m noticing a lot of other bloggers starting to use Patreon. I’m starting to think about it myself, but I have my doubts. I always thought Patreon was more meant for YouTubers.
I’ve seen a few bloggers who also do other stuff, like paint or make jewellery, and a lot of the podcasts I listen to, have Patreon accounts. I don’t know whether it’s something I’ll go ahead with. I’ve got things set up, I just haven’t launched the Patreon page yet because I’m still thinking about it. I can’t decide whether I really am able to commit to things.
