I’ve been bad

Since I got my arrears payment on Monday I’ve been treating myself to all those things I’ve gone without for most of this year. I had a Chinese takeaway on Wednesday, and made it last til Thursday, because I can’t eat that much any more and I’ve got into the habit of making two meals out if one if I can.

I’ve also bought myself some DVDs, mostly secondhand (I finally got to see the first two series of Vikings!) but today I splashed out and got The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies [Edit 30/09/2015: they sent the wrong film! I already have Desolation of Smaug, thanks Amazon, I wanted Battle of Five Armies when it’s released in November!] and Thor: The Dark World [Edit 30/09/2015: it didn’t arrive with everything else. Tomorrow maybe?] new from amazon. I also bought three Tolkien books I wanted – The Story of Kalervo, The Monsters, The Critics and Other Essays, and Finn and Hengest. The first is a new release, and will go lovely next to ‘Beowulf‘ on my Tolkien shelf – they have similar dust jacket designs. The other two have been around a while but I’ve never had the chance to get them. They will be here at the end of the week and I shall surface from my Tolkien immersion eventually.

But that’s it, there will be no more money being spent. I want to keep a months rent and bill money in my savings just in case of an emergency, and I don’t want to touch my ESA until next month’s rent is paid. I’m so used to having to eke out my income to cover my bills and rent that I’m scared to use any of it now that I have a bit more coming in even though, theoretically I know I have enough for the bills, food and the odd treat.

Lincoln, how I adore thee

For thy lovely bookshops.

But not the hill. I’m still suffering from fatigue and leg cramps because of Steep Hill.

Annoying myself

So, it’s official, I’m an idiot.

One of my coping mechanisms when I have stuff going round my brain is to write it down like a blog post then hit the little rubbish bin.

Except this afternoon I hit publish by accident and something was published that should never have seen the light of day. Luckily, only two or three people saw it, and one of them rang me to tell me. I’ve taken my rantings down obviously, and deleted the links I could find, but still the damage might have been done.

I’ve been ruminating on it for the last two hours, but now I feel better. Writing works as catharsis but I need to remember when it’s appropriate to publish my thoughts and when it isn’t.

I need to find a less risky cathartic outlet, just in case I forget. Again.

I’ve decided to do a writing course

Morning all, having a good weekend? I hope so. I had a rather disappointing day yesterday but I’m back on with the positive thought patterns at the moment.

Gothic Imagination

There are times when I wish trains were cheaper, and now might be one of them. There’s an exhibition on at the British Library called

Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination

that I really would like to see. I might have to take a trip down to London on one of my ‘four-off’s in November or December. I wonder whether I can go there and back in a day without completely exhausting myself? And I’d need to find fairly cheap train tickets, but still, it might be possible.

Job hunting; Or, I think I’ve finally found the guts to go freelance, and other things I’ve been up to lately

Good afternoon lovely readers, how are you? Enjoying the summer? As you might have guessed I’m in rather a jaunty mood. I had a good weekend and today

Saturday

Morning, hope you’re having a good weekend?

I am; I’m having a little holiday – spending the weekend at my sister’s while she’s away visiting her in-laws. Someone needs to look after the animals; the rabbit who has his own room, the hamster named Loki who only surfaces for hamster-chocolate, and the new resident hamster – acrobatic Sophie. There’s a children’s picture book in there somewhere, I’m sure.
