Okay, I’m joking. Well, mostly. Don’t kill me, I’m too busy. Novels to write, books to review, that sort of thing.

I have to move out of the house I’ve been in since 11th September 2014; long-time readers may remember the breakdown I had about having to move then? Due to my landlord not paying his bills (allegedly), he has to sell the house, which means I have to move.

Yep, I over did it last week and have basically spent two days asleep. Which is why I’m awake at one in the morning writing a blog post. I’m hoping getting things written down will allow me to get some sleep tonight.
I’ve been thinking about the ‘monsters’ in Beowulf recently. I don’t think they’re all that monstrous, if anything they’re probably justified in their actions if you look at events from their point of view.
I just haven’t had any inspiration since Saturday. I’ve been working on my last university assignment for the year, and reading books that I need to get reviewed this week. I have finally read the two most pressing books; their reviews are written and scheduled for Friday and Sunday. I have three other books yet, from Pen&Sword, to read and review, and I need to read through and mess about with Hidden Fire one last time. My plan is to have it ready for release, on Amazon, on my birthday, 17th June. I need to get my cover ordered and work out how to format everything. I need more beta readers who will give me constructive criticism, that sort of thing.
Anyway, all this is distracting me and I can’t settle to write from prompts. I plan to keep going, writing when I’m able to, though posts might be irregular.
And now I’m tired so I’m going to get a glass of squash and go to bed early.

I am going to be brave and post an extract from my novel Hidden Fire. I am fairly certain it has reached the point where I really need to do something with it, but I don’t know what to do. I’m conflicted. Should I try the traditional publishing route of find and agent and then hope a publisher buys it, or do I self-publish?
If you’re in the UK the Woodland Trust, based in Grantham, Linconshire, but with woodlands all around the the country, are offering free tree seed packs to people.
https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/seeds/
They hope to increase the tree cover in the UK from the current 13% by planting 64,000,000 trees by 2025. I encourage my readers in the UK to join in if you have the space or could plant tree somewhere unofficial. I have ordered my pack of seeds – they contain rowan, dog rose, alder buckthorn and holly seeds in compost ready to germinate. These trees provide food and shelter to many birds and small animals, and make a reasonable hedge. I plan to document the progress of growth and hopefully planting.
2016 wasn’t a great year for a lot of people and there were political and cultural events that really mucked it up, but for me personally it wasn’t all horrible. Rather than dwelling on the upsetting stuff I’m going to list the positives from last year.
This year, I can only go forwards.Continue reading “2017 – onwards and upwards”
A long list of things I learnt in Paris that might be of use to other novice travellers (it was orginally ten but the lessons got away from me).

We’re back in England and I am exhausted; we’re currently sat at the bus stop waiting for a bus back to Harrogate. I’m looking forward to getting back home tomorrow and sleeping in my own bed with my Hell Hounds. I’ve missed them, but it has been nice to have no responsibility for a change.
I’m currently in Harrogate, and I have to say after the last few days of 30 degrees and clear skies, I’m enjoying the existence of clouds and cooler weather. I don’t think I’m built for hot weather. We had a bit of a wait at the airport this afternoon because we decided to go straight from the hotel to the airport and avoid the stress. Dragging the suitcases around for several hours would have been a bit of an arse as well. We got through security and passports and took up residence at Pret a Manger, had dinner and read for a few hours.
In Paris I managed to spend almost all of my money and ate amazing food, treat myself to two new books and a copy of a quarterly literary journal, and a hat. We saw amazing sights and determined to go again another year to see even more. I particularly want to see L’Musee de le Homme.
There will be more to come, including my ‘top 10 tips for visiting Paris’.
Bye
